Adhesive hooks and the surface underneath
The paint and the removal instructions are part of the purchase, even for a light object.

Identify the surface before the hook
An adhesive hook is only as useful as its compatibility with the surface underneath. Painted walls, tile, wood finishes and textured surfaces are not interchangeable. Check the manufacturer's supported surfaces and exclusions for the exact product before buying a pack.
Fresh paint needs the curing period specified by the paint and hook makers. A wall that feels dry is not necessarily ready for an adhesive product. Existing paint that is weak or peeling can also be unsuitable. Command's guidance explicitly connects performance and removal with surface condition; a damage-free label is not a guarantee for every wall.
Count the real load
Weigh or otherwise establish the load you intend to hang, including contents. A small handbag can become much heavier after a bottle and other items are added. Do not combine several hooks and assume their ratings add together unless the manufacturer describes that arrangement.
Follow the supplied cleaning, pressing and waiting instructions. These can differ by product, so avoid borrowing a timing from another brand. Do not hang a fragile or valuable object where an unexpected release would cause harm. Adhesive hooks are not furniture anchors or personal supports.
Leave room for removal
Some removable systems need access to a tab and a particular pulling direction. Check that the chosen position will let you follow that method later. Hiding the hook tightly beneath a shelf can make correct removal difficult even when installation was straightforward.
Keep spare instructions or a photograph of the packet. When the room is rearranged months later, it is easy to forget how a strip should release. Do not pry the hook from the wall or pull outwards if the maker specifies a different movement.
Try a suitable low-consequence location
Where the instructions allow, start with one hook in a suitable location rather than fitting a whole row immediately. Observe how the arrangement works in normal use while staying within the product's limits. A hook that forces a bag strap against a door is poorly placed even if the adhesive holds.
If the wall is unsuitable, choose another storage method or an appropriately installed fixing. Adding more adhesive to an uncertain surface is not a substitute for compatibility. The useful no-drill solution is the one whose installation and eventual removal you can carry out as intended.
